Papuan Police Regrets Riots In The Delivery Of Lukas Enembe's Body, There Are 14 People Injured

SENTANI - The Papuan Regional Police (Polda) regretted the incident of chaos during the delivery of Lukas Enembe's body from Sentani, Jayapura Regency to Koya Tengah, Jayapura City.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri said a number of incidents occurred during the delivery of the bodies to the Central Koya funeral home.

"This incident mainly occurred in several areas, such as in front of the Sentani Evangelical Atas Theological School (STAKIN) and several other locations," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 28.

According to the Kapolda, his party recorded several incidents during the handover of the bodies to the family, there were 14 injured victims, including Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Ruikutun, eight security forces, and five local residents.

"In addition, there was also one car that was burned, five vehicles were heavily damaged, three buildings, and about 25 houses were damaged and burned," he said.

Until now, he said, the total loss is still in the counting stage. Meanwhile, Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Ruikutun who was also a victim of injuries was declared stable. However, the victim will undergo further treatment in Jakarta.

"Until now, the masses of pick-up have reached the residence of the deceased, which is located in Central Koya, and we continue to guard the masses," said the Kapolda.

This incident, said Inspector General Mathius, is very unfortunate because the public expresses that sadness is not in accordance with what they want together.

"This moment should show the love of children for their parents, and I deeply regret what happened like this should not happen," he said.

He hopes that there will be no more similar riots and asks the public to show grief in the right way in accordance with the culture of Papuan children, without harming or disturbing the safety and comfort of other communities.

"We tolerate during the delivery of the bodies. However, if further action occurs after the funeral, we will not hesitate to take firm action," said Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Mathius.

The Kapolda also reminded the migrant community to maintain peace and not take steps that damage the atmosphere of harmony in Papua.

"Although several security forces have become victims, I emphasize that we remain committed to carrying out security and escort until the funeral is complete so that the masses can safely return to their homes," he said.
