JAKARTA - The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) of the Aceh Region and Syiah Kuala University announced that they would provide as many educational scholarships for Palestinian students who wish to continue their education both Strata 1 (S1) and Postgraduate (S2), and Doctoral (S3).
The agreement was officially contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh represented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan as Chancellor of Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh with the Palestinian Embassy in Indonesia represented by HE. Dr. Zuhair SM Al Shun as the Palestinian Ambassador in Indonesia. During the signing, also DR. Dr Safrizal Rahman, M.Kes, SpOT as Chair of IDI Aceh Region.
"As a university that upholds not only the value of ethics and education but also the value of humanity, we are also aware of the situation faced by our brothers and sisters in Palestine, we want to provide our support through the initiative to provide scholarships for Palestinian students. We hope this initiative can provide opportunities for Palestinian students to get quality education and increase their potential to build a better future," said Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan as Chancellor of Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh in a written statement received by VOI December 26.
Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, HE DR. Zuhair SM. Al Shun said, "On behalf of the Palestinian people, I as the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, sincerely express my gratitude to Syiah Kuala University, the Indonesian Doctors Association, and the Indonesian people for the scholarships given to Palestinian students. This scholarship is a very meaningful form of support for us, and will help Palestinian students to develop themselves, achieve their ideals and successes. We really hope that Palestinian students can make the best use of this scholarship, and Palestinian students can become Palestinian ambassadors in Indonesia."
With an initial quota of 83, the scholarships provided by Syiah Kuala University and the Indonesian Doctors Association of the Aceh Region will include tuition fees, living expenses, and dorm fees, student visas, health insurance, which will be provided for four years for undergraduate programs and for two years for postgraduate programs.
Delivered by DR Dr Safrizal Rahman, M.Kes, SpOT - Chair of IDI Aceh Region, the 83 scholarship quota covers 5 quotas of medical education, 3 quotas of dentistry medicine, 15 quotas of specialist medicine, 5 quotas of nursing science, 3 quotas after undergraduates in nursing science, 2 veterinary medicines, 2 postgraduates for animal medicine and public health, 15 quotas from marine and fishery science, 7 from science and mathematical science, 11 quotas from engineering science and 6 from post engineering scholars, as well as 7 quotas from various graduate faculties at Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. With this good start, we also hope that universities around Aceh will participate in providing more quotas so that they can accommodate more Palestinian students to continue their education, said Dr Safrizal who also serves as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Syiah Kuala University.

The Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) appreciates the initiative of IDI Aceh Region and Syiah Kuala University. "We hope that this program can also be developed by other regional IDIs in collaboration with the local University to provide scholarships for students from Palestine so that they can complete their education properly.
