JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded that 102 houses were damaged by strong winds and flash floods in Bandung Regency, West Java, on Monday, December 25.

In detail, as many as 14 houses were heavily damaged, 2 were moderately damaged and 62 were lightly damaged by strong winds. Then, there were 6 houses that were slightly damaged after being hit by flash floods.

"Visual reports compiled by the BNPB Control and Operations Center (Pusdalops), several buildings hit by strong winds suffered damage to the roof," said Acting Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Tuesday, December 26.

"On the other hand, there is a building that collapsed to the ground. On the other hand, residents' houses on the banks of the river were damaged by the back wall after being affected by flash floods," he continued.

Abdul Muhari explained that this hydrometeorological disaster began with high rainfall. A total of six residents were slightly injured after being hit by building materials.

"The injured residents immediately received intensive care. Meanwhile, for the incident there were no casualties," he said.

Based on the provisional rapid assessment, as many as 82 families/312 people living in the Baleendah, Ciparay and Anjasari sub-districts were affected by strong winds. Meanwhile, flash floods occurred in Dayeuhkolot District.

Now, the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), together with elements of the TNI, Polri, and local governments, are working together to clean up building materials. The government provides logistical assistance and equipment to residents affected by flash floods.

Based on the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatotology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), extreme weather, which is marked by heavy rain and can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds, still has the potential to occur in the Bandung Regency area until the end of 2023.

"In response to this, BNPB appealed to the public and policy makers in the local area to remain vigilant and increase preparedness," said Abdul Muhari.
