The Ministry Of SOEs Supports Journalist Professionalism Through The UKW Program From The Central PWI

JAKARTA - The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, appreciates the role of journalists as a key element in the increasingly professional press industry. The government, including SOEs, shows serious attention to the press industry by providing support in the implementation of the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) held by the Central PWI.

Erick Thohir emphasized the importance of journalist professionalism in reading every fact on the ground without harming or hurting. Support from the Ministry of SOEs for the Central PWI in implementing UKW in 38 Provinces and one Special Region of Solo is a real step in increasing the competence and insight of journalists.

"The position of the media is important as a partner of the government in providing education and making the audience more well-litted," said Erick.

The support was handed over directly by Erick Thohir to the General Chairperson of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun, which was attended by a number of PWI administrators such as the Secretary General of PWI Pusat Sayid Iskandarsyah, the Director of MSMEs at the Central PWI Syarif Hidayatullah, and the General Chairperson of the BUMN Public Relations Forum Agustya Hendy Bernadi, at the Ministry of SOEs Building, Jakarta, Monday afternoon, December 18.

Hendry Ch Bangun welcomed the support provided by the Ministry of SOEs, considering it a tangible manifestation of the implementation of support for the improvement of PWI members' competence and training. "This means that the Ministry of SOEs supports competency improvement programs, increased insight and training for PWI members," said Hendry.

Hendry also hopes that this support will continue in a sustainable manner and discuss the technical implementation of UKW.

The implementation of UKW will begin in Aceh on 22-23 December 2023, followed by other provinces. Hendry Ch Bangun emphasized his hope that the implementation of UKW could be used by SOEs to better understand the world of journalists and establish friendship both at the central and regional levels.

As an annual tradition, PWI will hold a National Press Day (HPN) on February 9, 2024. On February 7, 2024, before the peak event of HPN, a national seminar, convention and working conference of PWI will be held. Thousands of journalists from all provinces in Indonesia were invited to attend the event, where the Minister of SOEs is also expected to be one of the speakers regarding the development of SOEs and its connection with the advancement of information technology that has an impact on the mass media.
