JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani said the increase in the budget in 2024 would strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"The increase in the budget at BP2MI can encourage a stronger role from the state in providing protection for Indonesian migrant workers from head to toe," Benny said at a press conference for the 2024 BP2MI budget in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 5.

He stated, in 2024 BP2MI obtained a budget of IDR 530.51 billion, an increase compared to the previous year which amounted to IDR 382.82 billion.

"Alhamdulillah, important history is recorded because the BP2MI budget has finally received additions that will be used to improve performance, provide facilities, and provide services for Indonesian migrant workers," he said.

Benny explained that 46 percent of the total 2024 budget will be used for operational expenditures, including personnel expenditures, amounting to 54 percent for Non-Operational Goods Expenditure (BBNO) which supports PMI placement and protection services programs.

He detailed that the 2024 BP2MI budget allocation consists of personnel expenditures of Rp131.79 billion, office operational expenditures of Rp105.36 billion, national priority activities of Rp112.05 billion, and institutional priority activities of Rp181.29 billion.

Benny also ordered his staff to use the budget efficiently and effectively, openly and accountably.

"It is not sufficient to be administratively accounted for, but also to use it which is right on target and right on benefits," he said.

His party also invited the public to participate in monitoring the use of the budget at BP2MI to make it more transparent and accountable.

"We do this as a form of moral responsibility for transparency and openness of BP2MI to the public," he said.
