JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango will gather structural officials at his institution today.

This step was taken to determine the priority after being inaugurated to replace Firli Bahuri, who is a suspect in the alleged extortion and receipt of bribes from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

"I plan after I come from this place (State Palace, ed) I will go to the office and ask fellow leaders and structural officials of echelon 1 and 2 to hold meetings. The leadership meeting (rapid) of the goods", Nawawi told reporters at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, November 27.

Nawawi assessed that this meeting was important to hold considering that the anti-corruption commission is now facing a tough challenge after Firli became a suspect at Polda Metro Jaya.

"We will talk about everything that we may have to do and become a priority scale in the future to respond to the situation faced by the KPK," he said.

He said the current dynamics conditions were a burden for his institution. Thus, careful planning must be done to restore public trust.

"The most severely a burden on us is the erosion of public trust. That is the capital and that has been eroded and that is the tough job for the institution," said Nawawi.

In addition, Nawawi also said that this meeting discussed the provision of legal assistance for Firli. "Does it need to be accompanied, it needs to be given legal assistance, or is it enough until the Presidential Decree is issued," he said.

"This includes material that will be discussed with other leaders," continued Nawawi.

As previously reported, President Jokowi signed Presidential Decree for the dismissal of Firli and appointed Nawawi as Acting Chairman of the KPK. The signing was carried out upon arrival from a working visit to West Kalimantan on Thursday night, November 24.

This process was carried out after Polda Metro Jaya carried out a case of alleged extortion or receiving gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Firli was finally named a suspect.

Some of the evidence that became the basis for determining the suspect was witness testimony and electronic evidence. Meanwhile, the police have examined 91 people in this case.

They include Syahrul Yasin Limpo, former aide to Firli Bahuri, Kevin Egananta. Then there is the Semarang Police Chief Kombes Pol Irwan Anwar, Director of Dumas KPK Tomi Murtomo, as well as two former KPK leaders Saut Situmorang and M Jasin.

Meanwhile, there are about 8 experts consisting of criminal law experts, micro expressions, and procedural law.
