A total of 14 child inmates at the Ternate Child Special Guidance Institution are proposed to get a reduction in their sentence or remission ahead of the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Indeed, we have proposed to grant the rights of child prisoners, especially remissions in 2023 on the right day of Indonesian Independence, we propose 14 foster children who are considered eligible," said Head of the Special Development Institution for Class II Children Ternate Karyono when contacted in Ternate, North Maluku (Malut), Sunday, August 13, quoted by Antara.

He said the proposal was based on the terms and procedures regulated in the regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights number 7 of 2022 concerning the second amendment to the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights number 3 of 2018 concerning terms and procedures for granting remissions.

Therefore, in reducing the sentence of serving a sentence there are conditions that become an assessment. Such as discipline and good behavior and of the 14 foster children, the remission proposal period is different, some receive proposals for one month to 3 months.

He added that the proposed reduction in detention period was varied, as seen from the terms and conditions themselves, there were proposals ranging from one month to three months and for housing located in this child development institution totaling 23 people, 22 entering the category of foster children, while one person still has the status of a prisoner.

"We hope that being given this remission can encourage them to always do good things, so that later after returning home they can become better individuals," he said.
