JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked for certainty regarding the future of his country joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

NATO is known to be holding a summit in Lithuania in July.

"In the summer at the summit in Vilnius (Lithuania) there must be a clear invitation for Ukrainian membership, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine on its way to NATO membership," Zelensy said at the European Political Community Summit in Moldova, Friday, June 2.

Ukraine officially submitted a request for the membership of the NATO fast lane in September 2022. The application follows Russia's annexation of four Ukrainian territories.

However, NATO allies are divided in responding to this. The opinion of adding new members in the middle of the war is not a priority.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly warned that the conflict in Ukraine could escalate to a world war if Ukraine is accepted into the alliance.

"The doubt must be removed. A positive decision for Ukraine will be a positive decision for everyone," Zelenskyy said.

"When there is no security guarantee, there is only a guarantee of war," he continued.

According to him, every European country bordering Russia must become a full member of the European Union and NATO if Russia does not want to annex these countries.

"We are also preparing a peace summit, which will guide the majority of the world to implement a common peace formula," Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy's peace plan, which consists of 10 points, urged the full withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.

He also called for a coalition of forces to supply air defense systems and fighter jets to Ukraine.
