JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman mentioned four important roles of students in maintaining the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation.

This was conveyed by Dudung while giving a public lecture themed "Pluralism in the Frame of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia" at the Balairung Building, Jambi University, Tuesday 19 July.

"The four important points are that students must become agents of change, students as guardians of the values contained in Pancasila as a unifier of the nation, students as the nation's successors, and students as a social control over the life of society, nation, and state," said Dudung in a broadcast, as reported by Antara.

Furthermore, Dudung gave an example of actions that can be taken by students in maintaining the unity of the Indonesian nation in the midst of pluralism, be it ethnicity, religion, or class.

He added, that diversity among vulnerable communities is a trigger for the breakdown of national unity if it can't be managed properly, especially in the era of information technology that is so fast like now.

"This is an era where lies can become truth by playing with emotions and feelings. This is where the role of students must be to convey if there is fake news or hoaxes, because the news is targeted at people who do not understand," he said.

In addition, Dudung also invited all students and academics of the University of Jambi to continue to inflame the spirit of nationalism and the values of never giving up and being willing to sacrifice.

At the end of the public lecture, he gave a message to students who want to achieve success. Students need to forget the past that will never come back, always do the best, and fight for all their ideals and hopes, he said.

In the public lecture attended by 1,000 students and academics from the University of Jambi, Jambi Province Governor Al Haris, Chair of the Jambi Provincial DPRD, Pangdam II/Swj, and Territorial Assistant (Aster) KSAD were also present.
