YOGYAKARTA 5G Smart Mining technology is one of the Government's innovations in the mining sector. The inauguration of 5G Smart Mining was carried out directly by President Jokowi, attended by a number of officials. VOI will summarize a number of interesting facts related to 5G Smart Mining.

5G smart mining is the latest technology in the mining sector currently used by PT Freeport Indonesia. The technology was inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a series of working visits in Papua, Thursday, September 01.

The 5G smart mining technology itself is the result of collaboration between Telkom Group and PT Freeport Indonesia.

"By saying bismillahirahmanirahim, this afternoon I officially inaugurated 5G underground smart mining at PT Freeport Indonesia, I officially launched it," explained Jokowi in the Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Jayapura.

When inaugurating, President Joko Widodo said that the technology implemented in Freeport was the first in Asia. Jokowi also expressed his pride for the innovations that the company has successfully implemented in the mining sector.

"Today we prove that we have moved further by implementing the first 5G smart mining in Southeast Asia by PT Freeport Indonesia, which is supported by PT Telkomsel," said Jokowi, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

Jokowi assessed that Indonesia should not be left behind and must be able to compete in all sectors that are increasingly digitized, one of which is mining.

In his presentation, President Jokowi explained that 5G Smart Mining technology is useful as a supporter of remote control automation. In addition, this technology will help improve Freeport mining work and productivity.

"This is a copper mining one of the largest in the world and I am happy to have used 5G underground mining which we hope all of them are more efficient, all of them are more productive," said the President, quoted from Antara.

In addition, he also emphasized the importance of the mining sector which must immediately implement technology such as increasing reality, augmented reality (AR), internet of things (ioT) and big data demu supporting operations in mining.

Indonesia has begun to implement 5G networks that have a number of advantages, especially in terms of speed, signal strength, latency, data security, and device intelligence through multiple-input and multiple-output. This allows for more space for data speed to be higher.

Meanwhile, the presence of 5G mining technology at PTFI is carried out through infrastructure renewal, network strengthening, and developing a mobile edge computing platform. That way this technology helps control machines and even mining vehicles underground remotely. It is even possible to control above the ground surface.

5G technology also provides opportunities for PTFI to monitor and prevent the risk of work accidents through optimizing the use of cameras.

On the same occasion, SOE Minister Erick Thohir explained that the implementation of 5G in the mining sector was able to increase mining production capacity.

"If we look at what we learned from international Deloitte, where these 5 g has been running in the United States, Sweden, China, and Russia, where the results increase productivity by up to 25 percent, operational costs, especially drilling, decreased by 40 percent and of course 20 percent energy savings," Erick said in the same place..
