Sancho's Message To Victims Of Racism: Hate Won't Win, Hold Your Heads Up And Keep Chasing Your Dreams

JAKARTA - England winger Jadon Sancho considers the racism he suffered after the Euro 2020 final is nothing new. But he urged all parties to keep fighting it.

Cited from Antara, Sancho was one of three English executioners who failed to do their job when the Three Lions had to admit Italy's advantage in the penalty shootout in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, Sunday, July 11.

Sancho's partner at his new club, Marcus Rashford, and young Arsenal talent Bukayo Saka, who also failed to become a penalty shootout executioner, also became victims of online racial attacks after the final.

In an open letter that he embeds in his social media posts, Sancho apologized for his failure but was not surprised by the racial attacks he experienced.

"I'm not going to pretend I didn't see the racist attacks I experienced with my two brothers Marcus and Bukakyo after the match, but unfortunately this is nothing new", Sancho wrote in an open letter embedded in a tweet on his personal Twitter account, @Sanchooo10, on Wednesday night.

"As a society, we must be able to do better than this and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable", he said in the same article.

Sancho also invites all the younger generation who have experienced similar actions not to be discouraged while expressing his pride for England's achievements in making their first appearance in the Euro final.

"Hate will never win. For young people who have experienced similar attacks, hold your heads high and keep chasing your dreams", he wrote.

"I am proud of this England national team and how we have brought the whole country together in the midst of the difficult situation people have been in over the last 18 months".

In addition to online attacks, acts of vandalism with racist messages also occurred against a Rashford mural in Manchester, before the public came together to cover the message with supportive papers.

Manchester police said one person had been arrested over racial messages on social media against the three players.

Racial issues continue to be a disease in the world of sport, even England has consistently made a kneeling gesture before kick-off in each of their matches at Euro 2020, despite having received jeers from a handful of supporters when it was done in the warm-up event.
