JAKARTA - Automotive manufacturer from the United States, Ford announced that it will use Tesla's NACS charging connector on their future EV cars.
That way, future Ford cars can use all Tesla superchargers in US and Canada without using an adapter.
Quoted from Inside EV, Thursday, May 25, the announcement took place on Twitter Spaces which was attended by Ford CEO Jim Farley and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
However, Farley said it would provide two charging ports. That way, Ford still wants to offer a car that can still charge in the manufacturer's charging.
Starting next year, EV models such as Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit can access Tesla's Supercharger through the adapter. Then for 2025, the latest model will provide a charging port without an adapter.
"For 2025, Ford will offer the latest EV generation with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) link, by eliminating adapters to be able to access Superchargers," said the Ford manufacturer.
As is known, Tesla has opened a supercharger network for all cars through a component called "Magic Dock". This allows cars that have CCS1 ports to connect to Tesla Supercharger via an adapter installed to a charging station.
"We are enthusiastic about realizing our mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainability energy by welcoming Ford, and other electric vehicles adopting NACS," said Tesla Senior Director Rebecca Tunicci.
Tesla is currently opening the NACS standard for all electric car manufacturers. But until now only Ford and Aptera Motors have opened up to use Tesla's supercharger.
