JAKARTA - To develop environmentally friendly technology and accelerate initiative towards carbon neutrality, a Japanese automotive company, Honda Motor Co announced business cooperation with POSCO Holdings in terms of developing batteries for electric vehicles.

Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Global Honda, said that his party is partnering with POSCO aimed at realizing carbon neutrality for all Honda products and company activities by 2050.

"We believe that the expansion of our partnership with POSCO, which has extensive expertise in battery, recycling, sheet steel, and sheet electric steel, will help us accelerate our electrification strategy," Mibe said as quoted by the official website of Honda Indonesia, Wednesday, May 3.

Meanwhile, Chairman of POSCO Holdings Inc, Choi Jeong-Woo, said that his party is pleased to have the trust of Honda to develop electric batteries for the Japanese manufacturer vehicle.

"Honda has become our strategic partner in the steel business, and we are pleased to be able to expand our cooperation system into the field of battery materials. We hope that the full value series'' of the POSCO group for battery materials, which includes basic materials such as lithium and nickel, cathode and anode materials, future battery materials, and recycling, will greatly help Honda's strategy to develop electricity in the vehicle business," said Choi.

The collaboration includes several sectors, namely the development of battery technology, recycling technology, the development of tug-of-war steel sheets that are useful for reducing vehicle weights, and automotive steel sheets.

Apart from that, Honda and POSCO also partnered in implementing electric steel sheets on the mass production of propulsion motors for e-Axle (electric doubles drive).
