JAKARTA - The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, said the people of Central Java had high enthusiasm for getting the COVID-19 vaccine as an effort to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said this while following the direction of the Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin, to the Central Java COVID-19 Handling Task Force via video conference, Friday, July 23.

"I report to the Vice President, people in Central Java are scrambling to get vaccinated. The regents and mayors all miss vaccines," he said in a statement received on Saturday, July 24, as reported by Antara.

Central Java is one of the top three provinces with the most population in Indonesia, and also one of the highest number of COVID-19 cases, even though the number of deaths is due to the Corona virus.

He said vaccine coverage in Central Java Province was still low because the number of vaccine dose allocations was limited for the people of the area.

"The vaccine coverage for the first dose in Central Java is only 16.16 percent, while the coverage for the second dose is still at 8.28 percent," he said.

Regarding the number of vaccine interpreters in Central Java, the former member of the DPR stated that they have a very sufficient number of human resources.

"If there are many vaccine interpreters, because actually we have checked to inject it is easy. From us, there are enough health workers, there are students, members of the TNI and Polri are also there. So the vaccinators are all ready," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Budi Sadikin, will increase the number of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for Central Java Province by the end of July. He said the number of vaccine doses nationally would be sufficient again in August, after experiencing limitations in July.

"On July 19, 570,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine were sent, 30,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine were sent on July 22; then on July 26 we will send another 275,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. Next weekend there will probably be 500,000 more doses that can be sent," said Sadikin.

Amin appealed to the Central Java Provincial Government to strengthen upstream capacity in handling COVID-19. He asked the Central Java COVID-19 Handling Task Force to pay more attention to densely populated conditions such as Islamic boarding schools and boarding schools.

"I also ask for attention for dense settlements such as schools, Islamic boarding schools, or boarding schools so that special attention is given to health protocols, 3T and also vaccinations," he said.
