JAKARTA - Commission III appreciates the National Police for revealing the involvement of one of the middle officers in the case of the Trafficking in Persons (TPPO). The National Police was asked to take firm action against the suspect who served at the National Police Headquarters with the rank of AKBP if found guilty.

"Given that the massive crime of TIP and its victims continues to fall, I hope that the task force and the police must continue to take firm steps to take indiscriminate action," said Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Didik Mukrianto, Thursday, June 15.

"Including taking action against the dirty officers who are backing up this crime," he added.

Didik said that the prosecution of TIP crimes must be very serious and sustainable. Because in practice, the trade cases of many people involve strong networks both locally, nationally and internationally.

"This crime also allows strong people to be backed up, including government officials, police officers, TNI personnel," said Didik.

As is known, the Lampung Police Propam is currently investigating the involvement of the Pamen person with the initials AKBP L in the TIP case. This is because AKBP L's luxury house was used as a shelter for 24 NTB residents who were victims of trafficking in persons.

In addition, the Navy Military Police (Pomal) is also investigating Indonesian Navy personnel for allegedly being involved in the case of illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) handled by the Bintan Police. Pomal is currently investigating the role of Kopka M whose house was contracted to accommodate illegal PMIs.

There needs to be cross-agency cooperation in investigating the TIP case, especially those involving officials. TIP is a national trans crime and serious crimes against humanity by utilizing syndicates," said Didik.

He added that the crime of trafficking in persons is very inhumane because it exploits humans, both from an economic and sexual perspective. If it is not mitigated and prevented, said Didik, victims will continue to fall and Indonesia will continue to be the source or transit point of TIP crime.

"Even become recipients of quite large trafficking crimes, especially West Java, NTB, East Java, and Central Java," he said.

For this reason, Didik praised the steps taken by the National Police to form a Task Force (TIP Task Force) as a law enforcement measure against the rampant cases of TIP, which are mostly related to illegal PMIs. Since this task force was formed, various cases of human trafficking as well as the practice of sending and placing illegal PMIs to destination countries can be uncovered and thwarted.

"I appreciate the quick steps of the task force led by the National Police Chief in taking action against TIP recently," said Didik.

In his statement, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) revealed the involvement of TNI-Polri personnel, ministry employees and BP2MI who are backing in cases of trafficking in persons in the country.

Didik asked the authorities to take firm action against every person involved in the case of trafficking in persons so as not to tarnish the good name of the Government and law enforcement.

Furthermore, Didik explained the data submitted by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Human Rights (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud M that from 2020 to 2022, there were 1,900 bodies of victims of trafficking in persons who were returned to their homeland.

"It is suspected that 2 TIP victims died per day, this can be said to be a very emergency situation and must take swift and serious actions to prevent, take action against the perpetrators, and immediately protect the TIP candidates and victims," he explained.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (Simphony of PPA), in October 2022 there were 2,356 victims of TIP who were reported with 50.97 percent of children and 46.14 percent of women.

"The state must be present to protect every time Indonesia spills of blood. We must not miss any more cases of trafficking in people where women and children are also victims," said Didik.

According to the legislator from the East Java IX electoral district, one proof that the State is present and sided with victims of TIP is to strengthen law enforcement instruments. Including, conveyed by Didik, with firm action against anyone involved.

"The government must also continue to take preventive measures to prevent the fall of new victims by consolidating ministries or institutions at the central level, building a complete synergy with local governments and involving as much community participation as possible," he explained.

Didik pun mendorong kerja sama antar-negara dalam membongkar setiap jaringan praktik TIP. Dengan adanya sinergi tersebut, diharapkan Indonesia mendapatkan informasi akurat dalam melakukan tindakan penegakan hukum.

"In the medium and long term, the Government must build cooperation with various countries, especially neighboring countries and destination countries for Indonesian workers," said Didik.

Commission III of the DPR in charge of law enforcement affairs will certainly continue to oversee TIP cases that have become a scourge in Indonesia.

On the other hand, Didik hopes that all stakeholders and levels of society can be at the forefront of TIP prevention measures.

"Cases of trafficking in persons in Indonesia are considered to be minimized if there is a common awareness of this issue," he said.

"If you find any indications of PMI that will be placed through a non-formal route or knowing illegal PMI shelters, immediately report them to the authorities," concluded Didik.
