Jokowi Will Issue Presidential Decree Extension Of Firli Bahuri Cs Position And Not For The Form Of A Pansel Capim KPK

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would issue a presidential decree (Keppres) to extend the term of office of the KPK leadership.

However, the Presidential Decree will not be issued in the near future considering that the current position of KPK leadership led by Firli Bahuri will only expire on December 19, 2023.

"It won't be soon, it will end on December 19," Mahfud said at the Jakarta Palace on Friday, June 9, 2023.

The government, in accordance with constitutional provisions, follows the Constitutional Court's decision which extended the term of office of the KPK leadership to five years from four years. The Constitutional Court's decision has been in effect since the era of the current KPK leadership.

Mahfud said that with this attitude, the government would also not form a selection committee (pansel) led by the KPK which was originally planned to start working in June 2023.

"The government does not form a pandemic because the government is bound by the Constitutional Court's decision, although in our discussions not all agree with the Constitutional Court's decision," said Mahfud, quoted by Antara.

Mahfud, who is also the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, said that whether he likes it or not, the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding so that the government must follow suit.

"Because once we don't follow, the next time the government also disobeys the decision of the Constitutional Court, so now, with the constitutional attitude of the government, it will participate in this Constitutional Court decision," said Mahfud.
