Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari emphasized that the KPU still uses the applicable system, namely proportional open while waiting for the Constitutional Court (MK) decision.

"Until now, the KPU has monitored what is happening in the development of the mass media, but has it broken yet? The KPU has read out the Constitutional Court's decision, because that's where we know that's the truth," said Hasyim, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 29.

This follows the statement of former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Denny Indrayana claiming that he obtained information about the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the legislative election system which will return to a closed proportional system.

Even so, Hasyim was reluctant to comment on this information.

"I think the person concerned who stated it in public, so that it is fair, so that it is clear, friends can ask the person who made the statement," he said.

Until now, the KPU will still refer to an open proportional system in compiling ballots and other logistics for the 2024 General Election.

Previously, the Constitutional Court received a request for a judicial review of Article 168 paragraph (2) of the Election Law related to an open proportional system registered with case registration number 114/PUU-XX/2022 on November 14, 2022.

The six applicants are Demas Brian Wicaksono (Pemohon I), Yuwono Pintadi (Pemohon II), Fahrurrozi (Pemohon III), Ibnu Rachman Jaya (Permohon IV), Riyanto (Pemohon V), and Nono Marijono (Pemohon VI).

Eight of the nine political party factions in the DPR also stated that they rejected the closed proportional electoral system, namely the Golkar, Gerindra, Democrat, NasDem, PAN, PKB, PPP and PKS factions. Only one faction wants a closed proportional election system, namely the PDI Perjuangan.
