JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the industrial sector to be ready to enter the mandatory halal certification market in 2024.

Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi, said that this mandatory is believed to increase the competitiveness of domestic industries for the mastery of the halal product market both in the domestic and global arenas.

"Of the 24 UPTS spread throughout Indonesia, there are currently 13 UPTs that are committed and ready and accredited as Services for the Halal Examining Agency (LPH) to serve the domestic industrial community," he said in a written statement, Saturday, May 20.

According to Doddy, the legal umbrella for the obligation of halal-certified products is Law Nomot 33 of 2014 and Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 which states that products that enter, circulate, and are traded in Indonesian territory must be certified halal.

"The implementation of halal certification obligations will be carried out in stages starting from food and beverage products in 2024, followed by medicinal commodity products, cosmetics and goods using them in October 2026," he said.

Doddy explained, to accelerate the growth of the halal industry ecosystem, the government has a halal industry empowerment program in the form of promotion and cooperation.

"We are also empowering the halal industry, strengthening the halal industry infrastructure, and facilitating halal product certification," he said.

Doddy said this initiative also aims to increase the competitiveness of the national industry, ensure the quality of industrial products, and create healthy and fair business competition.

"Products that have used halal standards of products are expected to have good quality and are consistent so that they can increase competitiveness and marketing globally," he said.
