JAKARTA - To this day, the Indonesian people are still adapting a linear economy where the product cycle becomes buy, use, throw away' so that many of these used products end up in the TPA.

Indonesia is estimated to produce more than 190,000 tons of waste every day. With Bantar Gebang being one of the largest TPAs with more than 1,200 truck loads every day.

We need to reduce dependence on the TPA due to its capacity constraints. With a linear economy we are also directed to extract more raw materials and use more resources to make new products for consumption, where then create a habit of consuming single-use and ending the life cycle of these materials.

One solution that can help with this problem is the adaptation of a circular economy in everyday life. In a circular economy, a sustainable production and consumption system where the product life cycle is extended by reusing or recycling.

Based on a sense of concern over the impact on the environment, HokBen collaborates with Boolet to be part of the solution to waste problems in Indonesia.

"We started by reprocessing disposable clothes into sustainable materials. We collected used shells from bamboo and wood and diverted them from the TPA," said Sugiri Willim, Operational Director of HokBen, in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 29.

After going through the washing process, sterilizing, then firing it in the process using a hydraulic press machine.

"We are also working with local craftsmen where we produce demand for household products such as glass mats, key hangers, children's toys, cellphone mounts and others," he said.

As a food company that cares about the environment, today, HokBen and Boolet signed a MOU on cooperation to process disposable waste. In 1 year, 30 tons of single-use waste will be processed by HokBen.

But not only that, HokBen and Boolet will continue to add to the waste processing target and will continue to develop to create variations in other products. During January March 2023 HokBen has managed to collect more than 2000 kg of single-use marks from HokBen outlets in the Jabodetabek area.
