Pertamina Implements SmartMT For Tank Car Fleet
JAKARTA - After successfully implementing digitization at 5,518 gas stations, by the end of 2020 to digitize, Pertamina is targeting digitization for the tank car fleet. Through the Smart Mode Transportation Program or SmartMT, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, the commercial & trading sub-holding, PT Pertamina (Persero), wants to improve the quality of safety and security for its fleet.
"About 44 percent of tank car incidents could actually be monitored better, another 56 percent due to a lack of understanding about the importance of maintaining a safe distance around tank cars," said PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary, SH C&T PT Pertamina (Persero), Putut Andriatno, as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 16.
According to Putut, this is what drives Pertamina Patra Niaga to innovate SmartMT digitalization. "We want to instill that the safety factor is Pertamina's priority in every operational activity," he added.
The SmartMT digitalization innovation was developed to reduce the risk factors that cause tank car incidents caused by technical constraints, human factors, and the risk of security disturbances, thus creating a more effective and efficient tank car service.
Currently, ten units of tank cars have been operating that are integrated with the SmartMT feature, which are managed at the Ujung Berung Fuel Terminal, Bandung. This car serves about 200 public gas stations (SPBU).
"With SmartMT technology and digitization, Pertamina wants to continue to improve the safety and security of all lines of the energy distribution chain," Putut added.
Putut expressed his appreciation to the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) which has also praised SmartMT's innovation through a statement by KNKT Chairman Soerjanto Tjahjono during the FT Ujung Berung meeting, Bandung last June.
According to the KNKT, this innovation is a form of good initiative and concern to improve the security and safety of the fuel distribution transportation transportation system, and Pertamina is the only role model that applies SmartMT for safety on land transportation modes.
"We will continue to develop SmartMT with the hope that Pertamina's tank cars can operate with high standards of safety and security aspects. This is important in order to prevent and minimize existing risks, as well as improve the efficiency and quality of Pertamina's services in distributing energy to the community," said Putut. .
