Menkomdigi Emphasizes The Importance Of The Role Of Digital Technology In Building The Future Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid emphasized the role of digital technology in building Indonesia's inclusive and sustainable future.

"Digital technology can help reduce the risk of conflict and inequality, as well as open up equal opportunities for all, including the marginal community," Meutya said in the Advanced Dialogue of Indonesia's Future at Kura Kura Serangan, Denpasar, quoted in a press statement, quoted from Antara, Sunday 15 December.

The government is implementing digital transformation in order to empower the community, especially the marginal community.

According to Meutya Hafid, the use of digital technology must be based on ethical values, tolerance, and collaboration to answer various global challenges, such as digital inequality, climate change, the struggle for equality and cross-border conflicts.

In addition, technology is not only a means of communication, but also a tool for world relations.

Meutya Hafid gave an example of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology which has proven effective in supporting global peace.

UNESCO is utilizing the latest technology to analyze conflicts in various regions to data-based decision-making and the Early Warning System of conflicts in Africa and South Asia.

In line with Tri Hita Karana's principle, the Minister of Trade reminded that technology must serve humans, and this is also in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction at the APEC Summit on extraordinary breakthroughs in technology that requires leaders to be wiser, more patient, more accommodative.

"Because the power of technology can bring great progress to human life, but is also able to bring the destruction of human life very quickly. Let's use technology for good, unite society and encourage progress," he said.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of the National Economic Council, Mari Elka Pangestu, highlighted the importance of sustainable development which is not only oriented towards economic growth, but also community happiness.

"The true progress is what brings benefits to all, without damaging the environment and empowering those who are vulnerable," he said.

In the discussion, participants were invited to reflect on Indonesia's economic transformation in a global context. With the spirit of Tri Hita Karana, which prioritizes harmony between humans, nature and spirituality, it is hoped that technology can be used to unite the community as well as support environmental sustainability.

"How do we take advantage of the momentum of large changes in the country and abroad by taking the opportunity to carry out the transformation," said Elka Pangestu.

During the event, Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Utilization of Digital Technology in Sustainable Development with the President of the Indonesia Damai Efforts Foundation, Tantowi Yahya.
