Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Map The Evacuation Network For Migrant Workers Victims Of Trafficking In Persons In Myanmar

TANGERANG - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemnlu) of the Republic of Indonesia is now continuing to make efforts to map the network to find and evacuate a number of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) suspected of being victims of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) in Myanmar.

"We also go through the Indonesian Embassy to always map the network to see which party can provide information on the whereabouts of Indonesian citizens so that they can be evacuated immediately," said Deputy Diplomat of the Indonesian Citizen Protection Directorate at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rina Komaria, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 5.

He revealed that communication efforts with local authorities are now being intensified to speed up the rescue and repatriation process for PMIs from the conflict-prone country.

"And so far the diplomatic note has been followed up by local authorities. However, the condition in Myanmar is that the police cannot enter or access the province," he said.

He also admitted that the evacuation process for Indonesian citizens who are still isolated in one of the provinces in Myanmar has problems, where the Indonesian government and local security parties find it difficult to enter the conflict area.

"The area where Indonesian citizens are located is an area controlled by rebel groups whose own authorities cannot enter," he said.

However, his party will continue to seek solutions to save a number of Indonesian citizens in Myanmar.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi intensively held a meeting of our ambassadors at Bangko and our Indonesian Embassy in Yangon in order to map how to free the Indonesian citizen," he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered to immediately evacuate 20 Indonesian citizens suspected of being victims of TIP in Myanmar.

"We are trying to bring and evacuate them outside. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already tried to evacuate," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to communicate with the Myanmar authorities so that Indonesian citizens can be repatriated. The President said the 20 Indonesian citizens experienced fraud because they were not placed in the promised work.

"This is a fraud, they are taken to a place they don't want," said President Jokowi.
