JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ensured that all his staff had prepared steps or anticipation related to the potential for natural disasters that could not be predicted during the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), 9-11 May 2023.

"We checked earlier regarding how the command center post can monitor if a disaster situation occurs, then weather conditions, wave conditions and alarms in the event of an earthquake, and so on," said Sigit, in a written statement after checking the readiness of 91 security centers. Labuan Bajo reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 3.

According to the National Police Chief, all preparations in anticipating disasters and evacuation efforts in the event of a contingency situation have been prepared based on the results of the checks he did.

Sigit also ensured that all contingency measures were supervised through the Labuan Bajo command center as the center of operation control for all activities in holding the 42nd ASEAN Summit (KTT) in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Everything we can monitor, so that at this time we are taking steps from normal, contingency to we have to escape (evacuation) everything is monitored and can be monitored, and we can control it," he said.

Previously, the Assistant Operations of the National Police Chief (Asops) Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendy said that the National Police together with relevant stakeholders, in this case the TNI and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) had standard operating procedures (SOP) in dealing with disasters during the ASEAN 2023 Summit.

One of them is the handling of evacuations both for VVIP, VIP and other delegates who experience natural disasters such as floods and others. The handling of evacuation will be carried out by Paspampres, TNI, Polri and BNPB, based on the procedures for handling natural disasters that have been mutually agreed upon.

"In addition, the National Police is also preparing SAR equipment such as rubber boats, helicopters, and personnel who have SAR capabilities in the implementation of security later," said Agung.

The National Police deployed 2,627 security personnel from the National Police Headquarters as many as 947 personnel, Polda NTT 1,660 personnel and Polda NTB 20 personnel involved in Operation Komodo 2023.
