10 Houses In Mamuju Tengah Damaged By An Earthquake Of 5.4 Magnitude
JAKARTA - At least 10 houses were damaged by an earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude that rocked the Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province on Wednesday morning at around 03.43 WITA.
The acting head of the Central Mamuju Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Awaluddin stated that the earthquake that damaged 10 houses in two villages in the two sub-districts had no reports of casualties.
"There were 10 houses affected by the earthquake that occurred earlier in the morning. Until now, there have been no reports of casualties," Awaluddin said.
The worst impact of the earthquake, Awaluddin continued, occurred in Kampung Baru Hamlet, Kuo Village, Pangalle District. In this place, he continued, as many as eight houses were damaged by the earthquake.
"In Kuo Village, to be precise in Kampung Baru Hamlet, there are eight houses inhabited by 23 people who were affected. Generally, residents' houses only suffered minor damage," said Awaluddin.
Meanwhile, the two other houses affected by the 5.4 magnitodo earthquake said Awaluddin, namely in Barakkang Village, Budong-budong District.
"In Barakkang Village, two houses inhabited by 11 people were damaged. We are still monitoring the impact of the earthquake that occurred at dawn," said Awaluddin.
When the earthquake occurred, he continued, residents in Central Mamuju Regency had panicked and scattered out of the house.
"The residents panicked and rushed out of the house. They were worried about a tsunami so that many residents had time to run to high altitude areas," said Awaluddin.
The earthquake in Mamuju Tengah took place on Wednesday dawn at around 03.43 WITA. About more than three hours later or on Wednesday morning at around 06.50 WITA, an earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude also rocked the Mamuju Regency area.
The earthquake, which was centered 48 kilometers northeast of Mamuju Regency, also made residents in the capital city of West Sulawesi Province panic and rushed out of their homes.
The earthquake that occurred in the Mamuju Regency area did not affect the buildings and houses of residents.
