Can Cause Death In Hot Weather, Recognize Symptoms And How To Handle Heatstroke

JAKARTA - Hot weather is now hitting various regions in Indonesia. In the midst of the hot weather, one thing to be very careful about is the occurrence of heat stroke.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heat stroke is a very serious heat-related disease. Conditions occur when the body no longer can control the temperature properly.

Body temperature rises very quickly, the sweating mechanism fails, and the body cannot become cold. When the body receives more pants than releasing it, the body's internal temperature rises dramatically.

Finally the body loses control and causes heatstroke. Heat stroke can cause permanent defects, brain damage, to death if that person does not receive quick treatment.

Quoted from the Cleveland Clinic, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, there are two types of heatstrokes to watch out for, namely exertional heat stroke and non-exertional heat stroke.

Exertional heatstroke is a form of heatstroke that occurs due to excessive physical activity in hot conditions and long stroke. This stroke occurs in a few hours while on the move.

While non-exertional heatstroke occurs due to the health condition of a person who generally develops in a few days, not in a matter of hours.

Heat stroke can happen to anyone regardless of age. However, babies and the elderly have a higher risk because they cannot regulate their own body temperature effectively.

Not only that, but the type of work can also increase the risk of heat stroke. Athletes, soldiers, and people who work physically are also prone to heat stroke, especially in extreme hot weather.

There are several symptoms commonly experienced by people affected by heatstroke, as follows:

- Unbalanced body- Delirium (confusion or disorientation)- Dizziness- Excessive relief that continues even though activity has stopped- Heat skin, redness, or very pale- Low or high blood pressure- Nausea and vomiting- Oliguria (low urine production)- Fast breathing - Kejang

To deal with heatstroke, there are several actions that can be done. Such as going to a shady area and far from direct sunlight.

Then komres with cold water, where you can take off your clothes and apply the water compress to your skin. The compress is mainly on your groin and armpits.

In addition, it is recommended to drink a lot of water. However, if it does not improve within 30 minutes in some of these ways, then you should immediately go to the hospital.
