The Reason For Erick Thohir Appointing Maroef Sjamsoeddin As President Director Of MIND ID: Having An Experience

JAKARTA - The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has opened its voice regarding the appointment of Maroef Sjamsoeddin as President Director (Managing Director) of PT Mineral Industri Indonesia (Persero) or Mining Industry Holding, MIND ID.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of SOEs Putri Violla explained that changing the helms of state-owned companies is a common thing. Putri also said that changing figures is also a way of facing global challenges.

"When it comes to changing the President Director, it's normal. What is called rotation, of course, what is called BUMN-BUMN, there will be more challenges going forward," he said when met at the Ministry of SOEs, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 4.

Putri revealed the reason Maroef was chosen as the leader of MIND ID. He said Maroef had experience in the mining sector because previously he was President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) from 2015 to 2016.

"Mr. Maroef has chosen this, if we look at the flight hours, regarding experience, it is also quite capable, there is already experience, at that time he was President Director of Freeport too," he said.

Putri also explained that the background strengthened Maroef's position to assume the position of President Director of MIND ID.

"Well, this is one of the things that makes it feel like Pak Maroef is suitable to be a leader in Mind ID. So this is a normal rotation," said Putri.

Previously, the BUMN mining holding, MIND ID held a General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) today, Monday, March 3, 2025.

In this GMS, shareholders approved the removal of the President Director of MIND ID, Hendi Prio Santoso and was replaced by Maroef Sjamsoeddin. Hendi has held the position of president director since October 29, 2021.

"That's right," said MIND ID President Commissioner Fuad Bawazier when confirmed by VOI, Monday, March 3.

However, Fuad was reluctant to reveal the structure of the latest board of directors.

For information, Maroef is not a new face in the field of Indonesian mining.

He served as President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) from 2015 to 2016.

Maroef is also known to be the younger brother of the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and is a retired Indonesian Air Force from the Special Forces Corps who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1980.

Based on VOI's monitoring on MIND ID's official website, Hendi Prio Santoso's name is no longer listed on MIND ID's board of director. There is only the name of Dany Amirul Ichdan who serves as Deputy President Director, Dilo Seno Widagdo as Director of Portfolio and Business Development, Akhmad Fazri as Director of Finance and Nur Hidayat Udin as Director of Risk Management and HSSE.
