Nyepi 2025: Internet And TV Broadcasts In Bali Temporarily Turned Off During Lebaran Homecoming

JAKARTA - Given that Nyepi Day coincides with the 2025 Eid homecoming period, the Ministry of Communication and Digital will temporarily suspend internet services and television broadcasts in Bali.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that this decision was taken as a form of respect for Hindus who celebrated Nyepi on March 29, 2025.

"We will prepare a letter to all operators and not only for cellular phones but also broadcasting organizers for on that day not broadcast or temporarily suspended for one day," said Meutya at the Komdigi office on Thursday, March 20.

Meutya also explained that this policy is in line with the request from the Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov), which requested that the internet and all broadcasts in the region.

"So this is actually a request from the Bali Provincial Government and we have coordinated with the Bali Provincial Government regarding this matter," added Meutya.

Meanwhile, Director General of Digital Infrastructure, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, added that service restrictions will last for 24 hours, starting at 06.00 WITA from March 29 to 06.00 WITA on March 30.

" Nyepi's celebration is on the 29th. For from 6 am to 6 am tomorrow, the internet and broadcasting will be stopped," Wayan explained to the media at the same time.

This policy coincides with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr which also falls at the end of March. The government ensures coordination with various parties to anticipate its impact on the entire community.
