JAKARTA - The smartphone maker from China, Realme, announced that it has shipped more than 200 million mobile phones since its establishment approximately five years ago. Most of the products are even sold outside China. The data shows that Realme is the fastest mobile phone maker to reach this milestone.

Realme, which is owned by Chinese hardware consumer giant BBK Electronics, which also has Oppo and Vivo brands, said it reached 200 million in the second quarter.

Data from market analysis firm Counterpoint Research shows that only four companies - Vivo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple - need shorter time to sell the same number of units. In total, there are only 14 companies worldwide that have shipped more than 200 million mobile phones to date.

"We appeared when there were more than 700 mobile brands in the world," said Xu Qi, Chief Marketing Officer of Realme. "We are so proud that we have been able to become one of the top 10 brands in the world over the past five years."

According to Counterpoint Research, there were more than 700 brands of mobile phones in 2017, and that figure has fallen to about 250 in September.

Xu said Realme is ready to compete in the premium mobile market with its latest launch, Realme GT 5 Pro, which will be one of the first phones to use Qualcomm's latest premium chips, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and a new camera sensor from Sony, Lytia.

Recently, Xiaomi also released the Xiaomi 14 Pro which also uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
