WhatsApp AI Stickers Show Images Of Children Carrying Weapons In Palestinian Search

JAKARTA Making a Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based sticker on WhatsApp is a concern. This time it's not because of its ability, but because of explicit discrimination between Palestine and Israel.

In The Guardian's recent report, AI-based stickers on WhatsApp will show images of guns or boys holding guns as users search for the word "Palestinian" in the search.

The same view will also appear when users search for the word Palestinian Muslim Boys. However, in a search that includes the word Israel, it looks very different.

The Guardian is trying to search with the keyword "Israeli Boys" and stickers displayed only children are playing football and reading. While searching for the keyword "Israel", the appearance of only children smiling and holding the Israeli flag appeared.

This sticker display is a problem for Australian Senator Mehreen Faquri to ask his country's e-safety commissioners to investigate potential racist and Islamophobic images on Meta.

In fact, this problem has arisen since last month. The makers of AI stickers on Meta voiced their protests because the pictures displayed tended to be full of violence, roughness, and inappropriate appearance.

At the time, Meta Spokesperson Kevin McAlister told The Verge that Meta was trying to solve this problem. They will also upgrade their sticker features with input from users.

However, Meta has not fixed the problem to date, which has made many people increasingly confident that Meta is discriminating. These findings also make the war situation between Israel and Hamas even hotter.
