JAKARTA - Microsoft plans to focus entirely on artificial intelligence (AI), with Microsoft chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella, outlining his intention to integrate AI into all customer solutions and every layer of technology.

The company has made several important strides in the field of AI in 2023, with their partnership with OpenAI and use of AI Copilot integrated in web browsers as prime examples.

In an annual letter shared via LinkedIn on October 19 — the Microsoft-owned platform that recently launched an AI assistant — Nadella emphasized that “the next generation of AI will reinvent every software category and every business, including our own.”

"Every customer solution area and every layer of our technology stack will be re-engineered for the AI era. And that's what we have started to do," said Nadela, quoted by Cointelegraph.

Speaking about the company's AI Copilot, Nadella explained that Microsoft "is building Copilot into all the products and experiences we use most," as well as creating standalone applications.

"Just as you open an operating system to access an app or use a browser to visit a website today, we believe that you will call on Copilot to do all of those activities and more: shop, code, analyze, learn, create," he wrote.

In the letter, the Microsoft CEO highlights two key breakthroughs that he believes will be key in this "new era of AI."

First, he highlights natural language processing, a branch of AI that focuses on helping computers understand text and speech in a way that is similar to humans.

"We believe we have reached the next big step – natural language – and will soon go further, to see, hear, interpret and understand what we mean and the world around us," he wrote.

Second, he points to “the emergence of powerful new reasoning engines” (generative AI) and their capabilities in terms of question-answering, problem-solving and image recognition.

"This generation of AI helps us interact with data in new and powerful ways – from resolving or summarizing text, to detecting anomalies and recognizing images – to help us identify patterns and uncover insights faster than ever."

To date, Microsoft has integrated AI Copilot into services such as Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and GitHub. However, regarding their gaming unit, Nadella did not specifically explain the company's AI plans in this area.
