The Steam Store will Soon Help Players Find Games That Support PlayStation Controllers

JAKARTA - The Steam store and desktop client will soon be able to help players find games that support DualSense or DualShock controllers.

In an update post for developers, Valve announced that the feature will roll out to the Steam store and desktop apps starting next October.

The launch of this feature is based on the large number of players who have used a controller, either Xbox or PlayStation, to play at least once.

"Since 2017, Steam has seen more than 87 Million users play at least once using a controller. But recently we've seen the biggest growth among players using various types of PlayStation controllers," the company wrote.

Valve said that in 2018, PlayStation controllers accounted for about 11 percent of controller sessions. We're now seeing 27 percent of controller sessions played with a PlayStation controller.

"So, if your game supports one of these devices, you can now enter that information in the Steamworks 'edit store' section for your app," the company added.

Later on Steamworks, developers will see a new controller support questionnaire, to explain in more detail what devices the game supports.

If your game plays well with a DualShock or DualSense Controller (PS4 and PS5 respectively), you can now specify that information within Steamworks.

"This is the first step to help players find games that support the most commonly used PC video game controllers. Starting in October, we will show this information to players in the Steam store and the Steam desktop client," concluded Valve.
