JAKARTA - On Friday, July 28, Elon Musk revealed that the number of monthly users of social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, reached a "highest record" with more than 540 million users.

Musk's post about this user figure comes as the company is experiencing organizational changes and seeks to increase ad revenue which has decreased in recent months.

It is also one of a series of comments from X executives claiming strong use growth, after Meta Platforms launched a live competing platform called Threads on July 5.

According to a statement before the company's purchase by Musk in October 2022, Twitter had 229 million monthly active users in May 2022. In November, Musk announced that X had 259.4 million daily active users.

Since taking over, Musk has quickly made a number of changes to products and organizations. The company has launched a blue tick sign feature that is verified as a paid service and is starting to share part of ad revenue with selected content creators on the platform.

In May, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino, the former head of NBCUniversal ad, as CEO of X, signaling that advertising sales are a priority despite the platform's efforts to increase subscription revenue.

Musk also stated earlier this month that X's cash flow was negative due to a nearly 50% drop in advertising revenue and a huge debt burden, without providing further details.
