JAKARTA - Microsoft Bing is back to surprise the world, but this time it's not because of its new features, but managed to beat Baidu for China's largest desktop search engine.

Based on the latest data launched by StatCounter, Bing managed to gain an all-time high market share of 37.4 percent in April this year. Made him lead 10 percentage points above his competitors.

Meanwhile, Baidu decreased to 27.01 percent followed by Sogou 16.36 percent, Yandex 7.45 percent, Haosou 6.25 percent. And the lowest is Google which only has 5.2 percent.

The rise in the Bing market is likely due to new technologies that Microsoft continues to add, such as OpenAI's adoption of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, GPT3.5, and recently offered the GPT-4 the latest iteration of the highly sophisticated AI model on the search engine.

Another fact, Bing is also not just a search engine, but is deeply integrated into almost all Microsoft's services and products, becoming the fourth most important product line after Windows, Office, and Xbox.

No doubt, it could have popularity with its users in China. This integration strategy and focus on leveraging the latest advances in AI, have proven to play an important role in strengthening Bing's position as China's top desktop search engine.

The rise of Bing in the Bamboo Curtain Country will certainly be a tough competition in the search engine market, making other major players have to innovate and provide a better search experience for users. This was quoted from ONMSFT, Wednesday, May 24.
