JAKARTA - Meta is expanding and updating testing the Ads on Reels monetization program, so that more creators generate money for their content on Facebook and Instagram.

The company started testing Ads on Reels on Facebook last year as a way for creators to earn money from their work.

Now, Meta will invite thousands of creators to join the program, including creators who previously participated in the Reels Play bonus program on Facebook, which was recently closed.

Meta will also start testing the Ads on Reels program on Instagram in the coming weeks. In addition, a new payment model is also being tested by paying creators based on their Reels performance instead of advertising earnings on their Reels.

That is, creators can focus on creating interesting content, while Meta optimizes advertising experiences for advertisers and people.

Payments are determined by the number of games, meaning the better the Reels creator performance, the more creators can generate. Over time, Meta may see other factors when determining payments.

"We study payments associated with better performance in balancing everyone's needs. Many variables beyond the control of creators usually affect their advertising revenue, such as how many ads have been shown to people looking at their content or whether there are relevant ads to be shown to the audience," Meta said in its official blog post, quoted Wednesday, May 10.

"With performance-based models, creators can focus on content that is in line with the audience and help them thrive, advertisers gain access to more ad inventory to reach more people and people get a more consistent viewing experience with more relevant ads."

All creators who take part in the test will be automatically added to a new payment model, and over the coming weeks, creators who previously tested Ads on Reels on Facebook will be redirected.

Furthermore, Meta will also begin testing Ads on Reels on Instagram with similar performance-based payment models for several creators and advertisers in certain markets.

"We also plan to start testing performance-based payment models for In-Strength ads on Facebook with a small group of creators," Meta said.

In order to qualify for invitations on Facebook, creators must stay in one of 52 countries, including Indonesia, the United States (US) and South Korea and meet several minimum requirements.

Creators who previously served as part of the Reels Play bonus program on Facebook can receive an invitation in the coming weeks.

Once added to the test, to earn from Ads on Reels, the creator must complete an orientation process that includes accepting usage provisions and providing payment details.

From there, they just need to continue to make attractive Reels in order to generate money.

To check if creators were part of this initial program on Facebook, visit Professional Dasbor and open parts of Monetization Tools. If invited, creators will see the Ads on Reels option and they can choose to Prepare to start activation.
