JAKARTA - The Japanese government will consider the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology such as chatbot ChatGPT developed by OpenAI if cyber privacy and security issues have been resolved, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, said on Monday, April 10.

The statement was issued by Matsuno, the top government spokesman, before Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on a visit to Japan, where Altman said his company was "considering office opening".

Asked about the temporary ban on ChatGPT in Italy - developed by OpenAI backed by Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) - Matsuno said at a press conference that Japan was aware of other countries' actions.

"Japan will continue to evaluate the possibility of AI recognition to reduce the workload of government employees after considering how to respond to issues such as data breaches," Matsuno said.

In general, privacy issues are of global concern in the development and use of AI technology, including ChatGPT. Several countries or regions have adopted or are considering strict regulations related to data privacy and the use of AI technology.

For example, the European Union implements General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which regulates the protection of users' personal data, including data collected through AI applications such as ChatGPT. Other countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia also have applicable data privacy laws.

In addition, privacy issues in the use of a similar ChatGPT or AI technology can be a topic of debate and concern in various countries around the world, including issues related to user data collection, data storage, transparency in the use of AI, and privacy policies in the context of the development and use of AI technology.

Therefore, it is important for ChatGPT users or other AI technology to understand and comply with the privacy rules that apply in the country or territory where they use the technology.
