JAKARTA - Recently, a number of technology giants have competed to present chatbots based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT which is becoming a pioneer. Now reportedly, Apple is also preparing as its new player.
According to several reports circulating, many teams in the company, including the people working on Siri, are testing a language-producing concept dubbed the Siri Natural Language Generation on tvOS 16.4 for Apple TV.
The digital assistant, who is often neglected, is ready to accept the skills of the natural language generation which can make it much more useful and in response to the emergence of chatbots such as ChatGPT.
Although the current 16.4 beta tvOS update is only available to developers, the public will soon be able to try it by signing up for Apple's beta software program.
However, in an interview with the NYTimes, former Apple engineer John Burke, who worked at Siri, said Apple Assistant was experiencing a slow evolution due to a rigid code, making it harder to push for even basic feature updates.
Burke also mentioned that Siri has a large pile of databases with many words. That is, simple updates such as adding new phrases to the dataset require the rebuilding of the entire 'Siri' database, which can take up to six weeks.
Adding more complicated features like a new search tool can take up to a full year. As a result, there is no way for Siri to become a creative assistant on par with ChatGPT, according to Burke's belief.
It is known earlier this week that OpenAI launched GPT-4, the next-generation AI engine, which allows for a more sophisticated response from ChatGPT.
Even so, Siri is like a ChatGPT, which can only respond with text. He is a personal assistant who is voice-controlled and can be spoken to on Apple devices.
Broadly speaking, Siri can read the last email, send SMS or call, look for a table at the restaurant, and play favorite songs on Apple Music.
The interview also did not specify whether Apple was building its own language model or wanted to adopt existing models, such as Google and Microsoft.
Launching TechCrunch, Saturday, March 18, Apple has long used AI-powered features, such as better advice on keyboards, processing in photography, opening mobile phones when users wear masks with Face ID.
Finally, Apple also embeds AI in object separation from the background across the system, damage detection on Apple Watch and, most recently, karaoke features on Apple Music. However, none of them appeared as chatbots.
