Promise No More LAYOFFS, Meta Gives Fake Hopes To Its Employees

JAKARTA - Just months after firing 11,000 workers, Meta is rumored to be planning to again cut ties (PHK) in the near future to reorganize their management structure.

The news comes after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted in January that another round would take place this year.

According to The Washington Post, which is aware of this information from an internal source, Meta plans to field several leaders and without having subordinates, leveling the management layer between Zuckerberg and the company's interns.

In addition, some projects are also expected to be suspended and Meta executives must evaluate the cheapest way to complete the most necessary tasks. This will affect workers in non-technical roles.

In this round of layoffs it is claimed to number in the thousands and may not happen in one day, but will continue in the coming months.

However, Meta spokesman Dave Arnold declined to comment to The Washington Post on the matter, but only referred to Zuckerberg's earlier statement from January.

"We closed last year with some difficult layoffs and restructured some teams. As we do this, I clearly say that this is the beginning of our focus on efficiency and not the end," Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg's explanation did warn about the possibility of more layoffs this year. However, that differs from Zuckerberg's message after massive November layoffs last year when he said there would be no more layoffs, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Thursday, February 23.

At the time, the parent Facebook and Instagram released 13 percent of their workforce, roughly more than 11,000 employees, from grappling with soaring costs and a weak advertising market.

Last year's layoffs were the first in 18 years of Meta's history. Other tech companies are also doing the same thing by cutting thousands of jobs, including parent Google, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Snap.
