YouTube Officials Get New CEO Web3-Friendly, Neal Mohan

JAKARTA - After Susan Wojcicki resigned from her position as CEO of YouTube on February 16 after serving for nine years, the company now officially has a new CEO. Google's parent company, Alphabet, has appointed Neal Mohan as a replacement for Wojcicki.

Previously, Mohan served as YouTube's Chief Product Officer and has overseen the deletion of dislike buttons on YouTube, the launch of YouTube Shorts as a competitor to TikTok, and YouTube Music.

In February 2022, Mohan revealed his plans to leverage Web3 technology, including NFT, to provide new opportunities for creators. Mohan said that NFT could provide new ways for creators to interact with their audiences and create new sources of income.

"Web3 also opens new opportunities for creators. We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFT can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans. Together, they will be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways that were previously impossible," he wrote in a blog post on February 10, 2022, quoted by Cointelegraph.

Although this plan was supposed to be launched last year, until now there has been no definite sign of its launch. However, now with Mohan as the new CEO, it is likely that this plan will be realized in the future.

Although previously there were frequent negative reactions regarding the emergence of NFT in the entertainment industry, this time this did not happen on Twitter after Neal Mohan's announcement as CEO of YouTube.

With Mohan's appointment as YouTube's new CEO, it can be expected that there will be an increase in the use of Web3 technology on the world's largest video platform.
