ChatGPT, Microsoft-backed AI bot, has yet to launch in Vietnam. However, the country has also joined Asia's enthusiasm for embracing the technology. Some of Vietnam's largest companies are exploring the possibility of using the technology to write emails, essays, code, and even news using simple requests from users.

Dozens of Facebook groups dedicated to the OpenAI platform have sprung up in Vietnam, with one of the groups with 79,000 members.

However, to use ChatGPT, prospective users in Vietnam must go through several stages. Currently, ChatGPT is not yet available in three Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Therefore, access to this service from Vietnam requires a virtual private network (VPN).

Every day, hundreds of Vietnamese people ask for help creating ChatGPT accounts, usually using VPNs. Some people charge around 1 to 4 US dollars to help create the account.

Although this technology is known to reply in a natural way but not always accurate, ChatGPT still attracts the attention of many people in Vietnam. According to Sonny Dang, who manages one of these groups, less than 1% of Vietnam's 100 million population uses ChatGPT, but they are interested because of its ability to save time, ease of use, and FOMO (fear of missing out).

However, ChatGPT has limitations, such as non-transparent algorithms and results that are often mistaken because it is based on language patterns rather than real-world facts. However, several large companies in Vietnam such as Vingroup, VNG, and FPT are exploring the possibility of using ChatGPT.

However, there are obstacles to increasing the outcome of the use of this technology in Vietnam, namely limitations in quantity and large types of data. In addition, the internet in Vietnam is also intensively censored by the government, which makes it difficult to create content generated by AI.

However, the use of ChatGPT in Vietnam, reported by Nikkei Asia, shows great potential for developing skills and knowledge in the country, especially for young people who are open to technology and innovation. According to a report from Temasek, Google, and Bain, Vietnam's digital economy will have the highest growth rate in Southeast Asia by 2025.
