JAKARTA - GitHub, a cloud-based website and service that helps developers to store and manage the code created announced it already has more than 100 million developers.

"Today, I am pleased to share that there are now officially more than 100 million developers using GitHub to build, maintain and contribute to software projects," said GitHub President Director Thomas Dohmke in his announcement.

Earlier in 2019, the company set a target to have 100 million developers by 2025. With the current number of developers, it means GitHub is gathering users two years ahead of its target.

On the graph shared on the same blog, it shows that the growth of developers using GitHub from 2008 to 2023 experienced a sizeable increase in users.

"Currently, developers are no longer just people creating software for technology companies. They are a group of increasingly diverse and global people working across industries, fiddling with code, design, and documents in their spare time, contributing to open-source projects, conducting scientific research, and more," said Dohmke.

Dohmke added that in 2015, nearly a third of developers in GitHub came from North America. Currently, some of the regions with the fastest growth are in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America.

"In India alone, more than 10 million developers use GitHub to create software. And in Brazil, more than 3 million new developers use GitHub," he concluded.

With all the current responsibilities, GitHub feels now his job is no longer just about equipping developers with tools, but also giving developers everything they need to focus on doing their best job.

"GitHub is home to all developers. This is our vision. From making withdrawal requests to empowering developers with AI through GitHub Copilot, everything we do is prioritize developers, and that's just the beginning," he said.
