JAKARTA - Instagram started introducing a new dynamic profile photo feature that allows users to display their profile photo and avatar simultaneously.

“Now you can add your avatar to the other side of your photos and people visiting your profile can switch between the two,” the Meta-owned company said in a tweet, on Wednesday, January 25.

Previously, you could only choose between using a regular photo for your profile or using an avatar. But now, you can use both.

From a short video that Instagram shared on Twitter, it shows that you can switch to view your profile photo to your avatar with just one swipe to the side.

To add an avatar to the other side of your profile picture, you need to navigate to the "Edit Profile" button. After adding your avatar, your profile picture will automatically switch to your avatar when people visit your profile.

The social media network owned by Mark Zuckerberg notes that this update is the first time they've introduced avatar animations, as your avatar will be able to wave when displayed.

Meta introduced avatars to Instagram nearly a year ago, and now the company is trying to make them stand out even more within the app with the addition of a dynamic profile photo feature.

The company originally launched avatars in 2020 as a way to compete with Bitmoji Snap and has continuously updated them since across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
