JAKARTA - On January 21, the Bitcoin logo illuminated the Berliner Fernsehturm tower known as the TV Tower. German bitcoiners took to Twitter and social media to share photos and videos of the illumination, later shared by leading Bitcoin Twitter accounts.

The man behind B, a German Bitcoiner named Tilo told Cointelegraph why the idea came to him.

"We just want to draw attention to bitcoin! We are big fans of this type of guerrilla action and will be watching closely," Tilo said.

Tilo is the CEO of an events agency that will be hosting this year's “Best of Blockchain” conference. He explained that the process is simple to set up the light display: “all you need is a mixer, a power generator, a custom Bitcoin logo,” in one of the comments.

Tilo already tried the process late last year. "But the beamer I use is too weak," he explained.

This is not the first time a Bitcoin logo or theme has been projected onto the iconic building. In May 2021 in London, the phrase “Fiat is the bubble, Bitcoin is the pin,” was projected to the Bank of England.

Tilo has previously posted a Bitcoin slogan to the iconic Berlin wall and has shared the product inventory needed to coordinate the illumination for those interested in trying it out. However, he stressed that this kind of "advertising" is technically not allowed, so caution should be exercised.

While the Reddit group for Bitcoiners in Germany celebrated the event with a series of comments saying “Noice,” the subreddit for Berlin residents took a different approach.

One commenter criticized the display of light as "Light pollution", while another hoped that "This [Bitcoin] will never catch on."

“Bitcoin is turbo-capitalism without boundaries and morals, every six months disguised in a different guise and motto,” critics say.

Price per Bitcoin is now sitting comfortably in the $20k range after surging from the middle of this month, while network security recently hit an all-time high. The hash rate, or number of searches performed by Bitcoin miners per second, recently reached 300 Exahashes per second.

Moreover, the number of Bitcoin users around the world is in the millions, while developing countries are starting to research and take advantage of Bitcoin's decentralized and sovereign properties. In the German capital, Berliners can use Bitcoin to pay for Subway sandwiches via the Lightning Network.
