JAKARTA - Waze, Google's popular navigation service platform, is reportedly testing a new feature to alert users about roads with a history of accidents.

Based on information uncovered by local Israeli outlet Geektime, the latest beta version of Waze now displays roads that have a statistically high accident rate, based on Waze community data.

When using this new beta version of Waze, the closest roads that are considered high risk of accidents will be shown in red on the map.

In addition, this feature also displays only one pop-up notification about dangerous roads around the driver, with the words "History of accidents", to warn users without causing anxiety.

This feature is currently in a test phase in Israel, although, it is not certain when it will be released, let's hope that this feature gets released to all Waze users.

Geektime also notes that you can turn off the feature with a toggle located under the app's settings section which is for alerts.

This is one of the first new features to come out of Waze since the company was added to the group overseeing Google Maps.

Recently, Google also confirmed plans to merge Waze's more than 500 employees with Google's Geo organization, which oversees the Maps, Earth, and Street View products.

Feliciana Wienathan, Communication Manager for Google Indonesia told VOI that by bringing the Waze team to the Geo portfolio, Google hopes that the team will be able to improve technical collaboration to provide a better experience for users.
