JAKARTA - The online sports gambling service BetMGM announced on Wednesday December 21 that its website had been hacked. A number of personal information of its customers were obtained by hackers in an illegal manner. But they did not mention the number of affected users.
According to the company, the problem affects customer information such as name, contact information, date of birth, Social Security number, account identification, and information related to transactions with the BPMGM.
The BPMGM did not immediately respond to questions from the media when asked about the number of customers affected by the violation, which is believed to have occurred in May this year.
BPMGM said it was aware of the matter on November 28. They also added that there was no evidence that the protective password or account funds were accessed in connection with this issue.
"The online operation of the BetMGM was not disturbed," said the BetMGM spokesman, as quoted by Reuters.
Last month, sports betting company DraftKings Inc also reported safety concerns in which incoming information of some customers was compromised on other websites.
The rise of the ride on gambling sites or betting adds to a long line of hacks targeting certain accounts. Unlike other companies, these gambling companies are more likely to report incidents they have experienced.
