JAKARTA - Twitter has just announced that it will expand recommended tweets to all users, including people who have managed to avoid them to date.

"We want to make sure everyone on Twitter sees the best content on this platform, so we expand recommendations to all users, including those who may have never seen it before," Twitter said in its announcement.

Recommendations are algorithmically selected tweets from accounts that users don't follow. By displaying recommended tweets with other content on the main feed, Twitter aims to help users find other accounts that may be interesting for them to follow.

This change does not mean that people who see tweets are recommended to start seeing more of these tweets.

Twitter's announcement emphasizes this update applies to people who have never seen recommended tweets at all.

"Recommendations can appear on your Home timeline, certain places in the Explore tab, and elsewhere on Twitter," Twitter said.

"Because recommended content doesn't always come from people and accounts you follow, we try to create conversations that are relevant, healthy, and authentic," he added.

In addition to improving the quality of recommendations, Twitter also provides tools to manage recommendations by tapping the sparkling icon located in the upper right corner of the Home timeline.

That way, users can switch between viewing the top "For You" tweet, which includes recommendations from accounts and Topics that users don't follow, and "Recent" tweets from only accounts that users follow.

Users can also provide feedback on recommendations seen on the Home timeline. For example, liking or retweeting recommended content will send a signal to Twitter that the content is attractive to users.

Instead, selecting "Not interested in this Tweet/Topic" from the tweet menu will notify Twitter that users want to view fewer types of the content.

Launching The Verge, Friday, December 2, the changes could help Twitter increase the growth of its users, which Elon Musk's new CEO claims has reached an all-time high since he took over.

UPgraded user statistics could be an important way to win back advertisers, although some of the biggest ones recently distanced themselves from the social network with the blue bird logo.
