Nokia and Moratelindo Improve Optical Transmission Network for Customers in Indonesia

JAKARTA - Nokia announced that Moratelindo, the largest private telecommunications network in Indonesia, has implemented an optical transmission solution to increase network capacity to 3 Terabytes (TB) in Jakarta and 2 Terabytes (TB) for all other areas on Java Island.

This network expansion to 24TB covers more than 52.000 km of fiber optic cable throughout Indonesia.

The implementation results have been implemented since June this year, along with another 3.2 Terabyte interconnection to Singapore which will encourage Moratelindo to be able to provide better bandwidth improvements to its business partners while maintaining customer rates.

The new transmission network will also allow Moratelindo to be able to monetize its network as a Network as a Service (NaaS).

Nokia's innovative solution will allow Moratelindo to be able to integrate their existing network with the latest version of the device module, thus saving costs and increasing the life of the installed infrastructure.

"Nokia is a global leader in optical transmission technology and the PSE-V solution will allow us to leverage optics as the company's core business to be cost efficient and sustainable," said Michael McPhail, Chief Technology Officer at PT Mora Telematika Indonesi, Wednesday, October 26.

According to Michael, the modernization of the optical network will also allow his company to increase its capacity per module while lowering costs.

Nokia's solution also includes the use of an 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) device to help Moratelindo maximize the coverage and capacity of its optical transmission network.

On the other hand, KP Goh, President Director of Nokia Indonesia, said: "Our optical solutions are industry-leading and will allow Moratelindo to be able to double the capacity without having to bear a lot of additional burdens."

Goh believes, Moratelindo will be able to use existing network devices integrated with the latest generation of modules and can reduce investment while improving customer experience.

"Nokia's solution ensures seamless integration from terrestrial networks to underwater networks so that this will simplify the operations management process," he concluded.
