JAKARTA - Who would have thought that the smartphones we use everyday could disappear in the hands of thieves or be damaged suddenly.

Sometimes the damage can still be repaired, but what if not? Surely you will lose all important documents, photos, videos and other data, right?

If you have this, of course you cannot do anything about it, but before you experience this, you should first take precautions such as backing up data on your cellphone.

Luckily it's easy enough to back up iPhone-only data. IPhone users have two main options which are to save data backup to their computer or to their iCloud account. Check out how to transfer iPhone data as quoted from How Stuff Work, Wednesday, November 25.

1. Save on Personal Computer (PC)

- Connect your mobile to Mac or PC. If your computer is running MacOS 10.14 Mojave or an earlier system, you will first need to open iTunes to access your iPhone.

If your computer has MacOS 10.15 or later, you can find your phone in Finder (at the bottom of the screen).

- After doing the steps above, you will later find a message asking for your iPhone passcode or something like Trust This Computer on your cellphone or computer, then follow the steps on the screen.

- Then, find your device on the computer. Furthermore, if you have sensitive information of any kind, especially financial or health information, it's best to encrypt your backups for security.

On the one hand, if you don't choose to encrypt your backup, the phone will update the apps and OS before transferring your content.

- Click Back Up Now and wait until your data is transferred. After that, you can reject your iPhone from the computer by clicking the arrow-like sign on the right of the screen.

2. Save Data with iCloud

- Connect the device to a Wi-Fi network that is strong enough not to be interrupted when backing up data on your iPhone.

- After that, go to Settings> (your name), then select iCloud.

- Tap iCloud Backup, and choose Back Up Now. Please note, don't cut your Wi-Fi network, it must be connected until the process is complete. If it is disconnected, the data that was backed up will be lost.
