JAKARTA - Twitter Inc. was shut down for thousands of users on Tuesday, August 9. This was reported by the outage tracking site Downdetector.com.

Downdetector, which tracks outages by compiling status reports from a number of sources, shows more than 32,000 outage reports.

"We are investigating this right now, will contact you as soon as possible," Twitter told Reuters in an emailed statement.

The social media platform, which is in a legal tussle with Tesla boss Elon Musk over a $44 billion takeover deal, faced a nearly three-hour blackout in July, with the company saying it had several issues with its internal systems, which had a major impact globally.

Best known for blackouts in its early years, Twitter is known for using the popular illustration "Failed Whale", which shows a beluga whale being lifted by a bird, during such incidents.

Twitter had suffered another widespread outage in February that was blamed on a software glitch.
