JAKARTA - The BMW car brand issued a notice of recall of its electric vehicles with the i4 and iX models due to the potential for battery fires.

It is known that BMW will begin issuing recall notices on September 19, but will contact them by telephone soon. For consumers whose electric vehicles are recalled, the company said they will be provided with alternative vehicles until spare parts are available.

Launching insideEVs, to date a total of 83 vehicles have been recalled, including the BMW i4 eDrive 40 and i4 M50 2022 as well as the BMW iX Drive 50 and iX M60 2022-2023.

In detail, 27 BMW i4 and 56 iX EV electric cars were produced between 22 November 2021 and 30 July 2022.

Together with the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), the German car manufacturer appealed to car owners not to drive it and park it close to buildings.

The reason, the automaker said that the battery cells in the electric car had a defect during production and from its supplier Samsung SDI.

This BMW investigation was sparked by several incidents in the US and abroad finding that the cathode plate of the cell may have been damaged when the cell was made. If cathode debris is released inside the cell, it can cause a short circuit resulting in a fire.

With that said, the company reveals that the fix for this problem is to replace the battery with a new one, which can be done at the dealer.
