JAKARTA - A number of institutions in Norway have been targeted by cyberattacks known as distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) in the past 24 hours. On Wednesday, June 29, Norway's NSM security authority said the attack was carried out by a "pro-Russian criminal group".
According to the agency, the attacks, which began overnight, targeted private and public institutions that offer essential services. But they did not mention which institutions were affected.
"We are working to find out if there is any connection to the state-sponsored actor," NSM chief Sofie Nystroem told broadcaster TV2, also quoted by Reuters. "We are fairly certain that no sensitive information was retrieved."
The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority's website did not appear online on Wednesday and Norwegian media reported that they were among the institutions targeted in the attack.
"We have seen similar attacks in other countries recently although none of them have reported any lasting impact," NSM said.
